Actor Christopher Plummer, 82, won his first Oscar last night taking home Best Supporting Actor for his role in Beginners. This makes him the oldest person to receive an Oscar and he joked about how he was born rehearsing his speech:

“I have a confession to make: When I first emerged from my mother’s womb, I was already rehearsing my Academy thank-you speech,” Plummer quipped during his acceptance speech. “It was so long ago, mercifully for you I’ve forgotten it.”

He also added that he wasn’t going to share his award with his costar:

“To my screen partner, of course, Ewan McGregor, that superb artist who I would happily share this with if I had any decency — but I don’t,” said Plummer. “And to my long-suffering wife, Elaine, who deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for coming to my rescue every day of my life.”

Congrats to Mr. Plummer! I’m really happy that he won. I loved that he got a standing ovation, but I also loved that Plummer is too much of pro to hog the spotlight, and he didn’t draw everything out. Pith is an underrated virtue, and Mr. Plummer is a classy gentleman.
